Each week, we issue a writing prompt to our own staff, guest contributors, and readers like you. We welcome guest submissions, so if you’re interested in being featured or regularly contributing to the site, email your responses to kelaine.conochan [at] thepromptmag.com.

No matter how you slice it, 2017 was a helluva year. It started off with an interrobang—the inauguration of a reality TV star as U.S. President. Then came the marches and protests, the LA LA Land/Moonlight Oscars debacle, Beyoncé’s pregnancy, a total eclipse, “Despacito” as Song of the Summer, and the #TakeAKnee and #MeToo movements. And that’s just a sampling of this year’s headlines.

What else do I have to say?

WE DIDN’T START THE FIRE / IT WAS ALWAYS BURNING / AND NOW SO ARE WE /

WE DIDN’T START THE FIRE / BUT CALIFORNIA IS REALLY BURNING / GUYS THIS ISN’T A SONG ANYMORE

And somehow, we got through it all. Together. With our ideas and creativity intact. Hallelujah.

We never stopped writing. We couldn’t. So why stop now?

This Week’s Writing Prompt: Year in Review

We know there’s so much more to unpack from a wild year. We couldn’t possibly have covered it all. So we want YOUR take.

We want to read YOUR year in review. What stood out to you about 2017?

If you’ve got some inspired ideas, send us your submission of 400-700 words. Write us anything that comes to mind when you think of YEAR IN REVIEW. It can be a personal essay, a poem, short story, script, or anything else original and fresh. Just make it worth our while and we’ll publish it, include it in our newsletter, and give you the chance to join the creative, talented staff writers here at The Prompt.

Email your responses to kelaine.conochan@thepromptmag.com by Sunday, January 7th at midnight EST.

We can’t wait to hear from you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, YOU CREATIVE MOTHERF%CK3RS!
