Each week, we issue a writing prompt to our own staff, guest contributors, and readers like you. We welcome guest submissions, so if you’re interested in being featured or regularly contributing to the site, email your responses to kelaine.conochan [at] thepromptmag.com.

Gooooooood morning basic bitches! HONK HONK HONNNNNK!!! (*air horn sounds*)

It’s late September. The sun is setting earlier and earlier each day. The leaves are starting to wither like the democracy resistance group you set up in January. Your tan is fading. In every way, you must confront who you really are when the summer ends.

BUT THERE’S A SILVER LINING TO THE IMMINENT AUTUMNAL DARKNESS.

And her name is Pumpkin Spice. Let us sing her praises in song, poem, or essay. Let us raise her up on the altar of pop culture.

This Week’s Writing Prompt: Pumpkin Spice

What’s your take on pumpkin spice? Do you love it or hate it? Is it the essence of fall, or the essence of the fall of man (to exploitative marketing and consumerism)?

We want to hear from you. So, send us your 400-700 word submission using the #PumpkinSpice writing prompt.

Write us anything that comes to mind when you think of pumpkin spice. It can be a personal essay, a poem, short story, script, or anything else original and fresh. Bonus points if you can make it sweet AND savory, like the pumpkin spice flavor we’ve all grown to hatelove.

Email your responses to kelaine.conochan@thepromptmag.com by Sunday, October 1st at midnight EDT.

Never mind that it’s still 90 degrees on the East and West coasts. Never mind that Puerto Rico has no electricity. When the baristas say it’s time, it’s time. Who are we to resist the sweet and spicy latte?
