I am a baseball fan. Naturally some knowledge of the game has rubbed off on my wife. Here are some baseball players she knows of, as described by her.

Babe Ruth (starting off with a classic.)

Derek Jeter (though she would vacillate between calling him Jared Jeter. Two Yankees, not a great feeling for me.)

Manny Ramirez (a Red Sox… Red Sock?)

The one they call Papi (I’m giving her credit for David Ortiz AKA Big Papi.)

Michael Jordan! He played baseball once. (Technically, yes. Count it!)

The first black player… Jackie Robinson (Very relieved that she was able to come up with his name.)

The one you talk about a lot. The Japanese man? (Ichiro.)

There was a Mexican. From Oaxaca (her hometown). He played for the Dodgers in the 90s. I had a baseball signed by him, but lost it almost immediately after I got it. (Fernando Valenzuela. She lost a ball signed by Fernando Valenzuela. I need to sit down.)

The white guy who speaks Spanish fluently. (A month ago, I showed her a video of Nate McClouth.)

Zero players from my favorite team.

Dennis William

Dennis is an aspiring English teacher and still listens to ska music. He lives in Portland, Oregon, which is fine, just not in the same way that DC is fine.
